A bird food recipe with peanut butter and seeds can be set out at any time of the year. It can attract chickadees, titmice, woodpeckers and even an occasional warbler. Peanut butter provides some birds with fats and high-energy carbohydrates they need, particularly during harsh winter months. Many other wild birds will flock to the seeds in the mixture. Peanut butter is an excellent alternative to suet in warm weather because it won’t melt and turn rancid in the heat. Grease a muffin tin liberally with cooking oil or lard. Cream 1 part peanut butter with 1 part wild birdseed in a medium mixing bowl. Fold in three parts cornmeal. Press the peanut butter mixture into the cups in the muffin tin. You can really try almost any type of vegetable as long as you know it is pesticide and additive free. My big suggestion here is to keep their vegetables raw. Don't feed them cooked vegetables. Salt with iodine can kill your Hermit Crabs so keep this in mind. Don't feed them anything containing salt with iodine. Again read the label. I sometimes boil pork neck bones or ox tails and feed my Hermit Crabs some of both. Boil the meat on the bone only in bottled water and don't put anything on the meat.
